Sunday stuff

I was at my parent’s yesterday doing laundry. With both kids, it’s a delicate balance of “He’s had more time on the computer than me!”, and “She had three hours this morning, and I’ve only been on for like an hour!” Then, “No, he’s been on for four hours!” And I gave up early, and just handed over my laptop. With nothing to do myself, I slept and napped the entire day away.

After laundry, I had some Day Job items that had slipped through the cracks on Friday, so a trip back to the office was urgently needed. Add to this the fact that I had lost track of a deadline, and so would need to dedicate every second not driving or completing Day Job stuff to this critical deadline.

Around 5:30 p.m. until one a.m., I was a mess of anxiety and nerves.

But I got things done, and it seems that everything has turned out okay. Until something else slips through the cracks and I miss another deadline.

I am grateful that my Friday was so productive (despite aforementioned cracks and slippage), and I am grateful that I managed to get things done on Saturday before they impacted others. But holy shit I need to get myself together.

Stop procrastinating, Nicki.

Start writing down dates when you get them, Nicki.

Make time for your routine even if that means you can’t sleep in as long, Nicki.

(In my head, I’m replacing my name with “dumbass”, but didn’t want anyone to think I was talking about them.)

The Rug

As an aside, one thing that was done yesterday that I was somewhat involved in (before nappage) was decisions about this particular rug. It’s been in our family my entire life, plus some four or five years more. Having belonged to my grandmother on my mother’s side, then my parents, and having dealt with me and dogs and everyday traffic, it’s starting to show its age. You can see the bald spot just right of center, and on the left and bottom left edges there are some less obvious rips.

Shall we get rid of it, we asked? It certainly has lived a good life.

Shall we cut it down, making a new rug in a smaller size, removing the injured portions? Since we have a smaller version of this rug already, that might be repetitive.

For now, we rolled it up and placed it in the basement, but I hope they follow my suggestion: we mend the rips (there’s a local Amish or perhaps Mennonite woman who does this well), and have it packed up for storage complete with mothballs and plastic wrap. There is room to store it, so store it. I’m not ready to get rid of it yet. I still love it. I think someone skilled with rugs could mend the bald spot someday.
